15 Popular Girls’ Primary Schools in Singapore and Properties Under 1km Away

For Singapore parents who only want the best for their children, they will go to great lengths to do so, i.e. getting their kid into a good school — in this case, a good girls’ primary school.

Says Ms Vivian Chua, Associate Group Director at PropNex Realty: “Especially when it comes to very popular and ‘top’ schools, my clients will search for properties within 1km of these schools.”

She adds: “A lot of parents actually plan far ahead [for the move to a new property] so that their children can go into their school of choice.”

Yup, one hack to get your child into your preferred primary school, especially if it has high competition, is to make sure you are staying nearby (the closer the better!).

According to the Ministry of Education, “priority is given to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents who live closer to the preferred school when balloting”.

Priority admission is given in this order:

  1. Singapore Citizens (SC) living within 1km of the school.
  2. SCs living between 1km and 2km of the school.
  3. SCs living outside 2km of the school.
  4. Permanent Residents (PR) living within 1km of the school.
  5. PRs living between 1km and 2km of the school.
  6. PRs living outside 2km of the school.

However, do note that staying near to your kids’ preferred school of choice does not guarantee you a place in the school. It is always good to find somewhere with other schooling options.

Ms Grace Cheong, Senior Associate Marketing Director at PropNex Realty says that while some buyers have certain preferences and school criteria, others just need the property to be within 1km of average to good schools.

Interestingly, she observes that more and more parents are not expecting to enroll their children into top schools. She explains: “Instead, these parents want their children to grow up in a less competitive environment so that they get to enjoy their childhood more. They feel that a competitive environment could quash the joy and fun that their kids could have if they were in a more ‘stress-free’ school.”

 

But if you’re still feeling kiasu (afraid to lose), even if your daughter is just learning how to walk, it’s time to start strategising and to find a property closest to your preferred school(s).

St Margaret’s Primary School
